Toilet Ek Prem Katha has a better start on Saturday. The film has shown very good growth at some places while on par with yesterday in most of the others.
on its opening day at the box office, as the film has collected around 12 crore net. The collections are at around the same level as Akshay Kumar’s previous film ‘Jolly LLB 2’ and Varun Dhawan’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania

The start for ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ was very poor at multiplexes on Friday morning, but business showed an upward trend as the day progressed. The film should show good growth over the weekend.

The audience of Akshay Kumar has changed over the last decade or so. During his peak in the mid-2000s, Akshay films used to open extraordinarily well on Friday, that was because most of his films were either comedies or typical masala entertainers that catered to his core fan-base.

In the last two years, the actor has chosen scripts that aren’t overtly commercial but rely more on the story and script to drive it. This change in choice of films has meant that the audience at multiplexes are coming out in bigger numbers, but most of his recent films – due to slow starts on Friday – now rely on word-of-mouth to do well at the box office.

The reports for ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ are good. The film should show 10-20% growth on Saturday and go further up on Sunday. There is a partial holiday on Monday for Krishna Janmashtami, followed by the big holiday for Independence Day on Tuesday. It’s possibly the best release period of the year in terms of holidays, so it remains to be seen if the film can take advantage of the holidays and challenge the lifetime business of Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees – which remains the highest grosser of the year so far.

Day 2 Collection : The film has shown growth today, with occupancy higher than Friday. Business for the night shows is expected to peak.

We predicted Rs 13 crore as the opening day collections of the film. The actual collections do fall in the accurate range and we are happy to get a prediction close, during times when film business itself has become extremely unpredictable. A film with good reports can start picking up noon onwards (Toilet), while a bad film can start cracking almost immediately like it happened with last week’s release ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’. This can make a difference of 10-15-20% to the first day collections, making predictions extremely difficult.
